Port and the main street leading to the well known church of Virgin Mary. Capital town of Tinos. On 15th of August the island becomes overcrowded from thousands of pilgrims and visitors.

Where to swim

Some of the biggest advantages of Tinos are its long beaches with crystal water, the magic sandly shores and the variform sand beaches with shingles or cliffs like sculptures of nature. The total length of sandy beaches overcomes 15 Kilometres and most of them are desolated throughout the year.
Tinos is a paradise for people who desire swimming at desolated beaches. Some of them (organized with shops where food and juices are sold) are: Kionia, St. Sostis, Isternion bay, Panormos, Colimbithra, St. Fokas, St. Ioannis Porto (one of the most beautiful beaches of the island), Pachia Ammos, Santa Margarita, Livada.

Ìuseums

You can visit many museums in Tinos as are the Archaelogical, the museum of artists from Tinos, Giannouli's Chalepa of art gallery and a folklore museum in Loutra.

Entertainment

Festivals

As Tinos is considered to be a holly island with many Greek Orthodox religious festivals and celebrations held, it is most probable that some coincide to happen during the tourist season.
8th of September feast of Panagias of Kiouras in Kardiani.
26th of july feast of Saint Paraskevi and 31rd of August in Ysternia.
1th of july feast of Agii (Sts) Anargiri in Arnados.
29th of june feast of Agii Apostoli and 27 of july feast of St. Panteleimon in Triantari.
15 of Augoust, festival devoted to Virgin Maria (very well known and too crowded).
14 of September, feast of the Holly Cross in Ktikados.

So the visitors who are interested in the local festivals, should be informed by the locals about which festivals coincide during his stay on the island. At least once a year, in most of the country churches and monasteries traditional festivals are held with wine and is accompanied by live music, violin and lute.

How to get to Tinos

By ship: From Pireaus, there are frequent departures to the island during the summer time. The distance is 86 nautical miles (6 hours by ferry boat). For further information you can contact the harbour master's office (01) 4511311, 4114785.
From Rafina there are regular departures to the island all year round. The distance is 64 nautical miles (3,5 hours by ferry boat an in less than 2 hours by the flying dolphin). For information you may contact harbour master's office (0294) 28888 & 22300.

By Airplane: There is no airport on the island, so you can take a local flight to Myconos or Syros, the two neighbouring islands and from there take the ferry to Tinos, a thirty minute trip.

Where to eat

Suggested for eating are the tavern "Ormos" for fish on the beach of Ysternia tel 22830-31.642. Also the tavern "Dinos" on the beach Gianaki in Kardiani, tel 0283 -31673. Ôavern DROSIA just 4,5 Km from the port, in the traditional village Ktikados, you will find the best traditional Greek Food. Tel. 22830-41215, 41387, 41566.
