Parikia of Paros
Capital town and port of the island, with the greatest tourist
traffic in summer. It maintains the Cycladic beauty and it is
built on the place of an ancient town. In the centre of Parikia
there are ruins of a castle and around it the white little houses
with flowers, narrow streets, arcades and little churches.
The archeological Museum, the Castle, the Ancient Wall, the
Ancient Cemetary, the Public Building - Sanctuary, the Delion,
the Asklepeion, the Ancient Workshops of Ceramics, the mosaic
floors, the Odeum or Nimpheon, the boxy burials, the three
churches and the famous Ekatontapiliani church devoted to Virgin
Mary are the most interesting sites, archaeological and
religious, which you should visit.
The Ekatontapiliani church of Paros is one of the most
illustrious Byzantine monuments all over Greece. The names of
Agia Helen and Constantin the Great (first Emperor of the eastern
Roman Empire or Byzantine) are closely connected to it. It is
exceptional and a valuable orthodox symbol that brings honour to
the island.
Between Parikia and Lefkes in the Marathi area there are some
ancient mines.
Naussa.
Naoussa town is the pearl of Paros and offers to its visitors
history antiquities, archeological monuments and places as the
Akropolis of Koukounaries, the island of Ikonomou, the ancient
tower between Naousa and Ambelas, Mycenaen installation now Ai
Yianni church, Deli in Filtzi and Kardagouri, is the Venetian
Castle (1516) which concludes a small fisherman picturesque port.
There are also, beautiful churches of 14th and 15th century,
Agios Athanasios, Agios Georgios, the Catholic church etc. Also
the Byzantin museum. In Naousa take place some of the most
important civilistic activities on the island as are the
festivals of Wine and fish in the beginning of July and the night
of corsairs at August 23. You can also visit the beautiful
seashores of Kolibithres with the large rocks and the strange
shapes, Agios Yiannis, Langeri, Santa Maria, Agios Anargyros,
Ambelas e.t.c.
Pisso Livadi.
A kilometer far from Marpissa there is the lovely port of Pisso
Livadi, which offers high degree of tourist services. Built
amphitheatrically around the pretty and picturesque little port
with view the Aegean sea, from which boats are sailing daily to
neighbouring islands of Naxos, Ios, Santorini, Myconos, Delos,
Antiparos and Koufonisia. Paros is considered to be a Greek
holiday centre. The golden sandly beaches run south for miles and
there is a wide selection of places to eat and drink Greek
specialities.
Antiparos
This tiny island is located just one mile west of Paros, linked
with frequent ferry boat crossings every day. Little boats from
Parikia and ferry-boats from Pounta serve the daily
communication, from 07.00 -02.00.
